LONDON:
Close on the heels of their successful handling of business process
outsourcing and call centers, Indian firms will now provide private
tuition facilities to British school children in science and mathematics
over the internet.
Two Delhi based firms- Educomp Datamatics and Career Launcher- will begin offering British pupils aged between 8 and 27 one to one lessons with a private tutor from early next year.
The companies, which already provide tuition facilities to hundreds of American children on the Internet, will initially specialize in mathematics, although help in science subjects will follow. The UK is a very big market and we will target it next year, said Shantanu Prakash, CEO of Educomp Datamatics.
Our area is mathematics and we have found universally across the world we have seen that mathematics is a huge problem. The UK does not have many teachers on this subject. On the other hand we have the talent and capital available for tutoring.
Private tuition for school children in Britain has boomed in recent years, with parents seeing it as an alternative to going the whole hog and sending their children to expensive private schools.
As demand has risen, finding a tutor in many areas has grown difficult and prices have jumped to between 20 and 30 pounds an hour.
In India, by contrast, there is a glut of well-educated mathematics and science graduates, allowing the two Indian companies to charge 15 pounds an hour.
